Create a lettering tattoo concept

The exact words are the source material. Set them first, then describe the voice and layout you want without burying the phrase under style adjectives.

Note 01

Prepare the non-negotiable text

Copy the phrase exactly as it should appear, including capitalization and punctuation. If a handwritten source matters, treat it as a reference to preserve rather than a loose instruction to imitate handwriting.

State the tone in ordinary words—quiet, blunt, loose, ceremonial—then choose a layout that carries that tone.

  • Exact text
  • Desired tone
  • Single line, stacked, curved, or integrated layout
Note 02

Keep text review separate from image review

Check spelling and character order on their own before judging ornament, imagery, or placement. A visually appealing draft is not useful if the source text changed.

When you have a preferred direction, bring the wording and reference to your artist for the final letterform and production drawing.

  • Verify every character
  • Compare a text-only version
  • Save the approved wording beside the visual concept
